Two Nation Media Group (NMG) journalists were assaulted by security attached to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's wife, Dorcas Gachagua. His colleague, Martin Mwaura of NTV, also had his phone confiscated by the security after capturing the assault on camera. The officers, who pounced on the journalist, however, were accused of disregarding the media badge the journalist claimed was clearly displayed for identification. The assault occurred just months after another NMG journalist, Ian Byron, was assaulted by unknown people on Sunday, July 10 at Kakrao shopping center in Migori county. MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo, therefore, maintained that the Commission was on high alert over increased cases of assault against the press.
