Gojek rocketed to the billion-dollar club from a small start-up in 2010, cementing Nadiem’s reputation as a visionary businessman. All the experience in e-commerce kicked into play when he translated the information he got from conversations with Gojek drivers into the startup, Gojek. Instead of just offering the traditional Gojek taxi service, under Nadiem’s guidance, Gojek also provided goods and food delivery, transportation and grocery shopping services. Business really boomed and the number of Gojek drivers spiked 15,000 times from 20 to more than 300,000 in more than 50 cities throughout Indonesia. With the growth, Gojek surpassed the US$1 billion evaluation by a wide mark and the Indonesian unicorn (start-up company that is worth at least US$1 billion) gained worldwide fame.
