NSE market capitalisation increases by N1.52trn in 1 week


The Nigerian equities market over the week made giant strides, as the Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index (NSE ASI) and Market Capitalisation appreciated by 10.21 per cent and 10.95 per cent to close the week at 42,898.90 and N15.368 trillion respectively, as against 38,923.26 and N13.851 recorded in the preceding week. Specifically, the equities market for the week under review made remarkable strides as new records were set during Thursday’s trading session for both NSE ASI and market capitalisation at 43,041.54 points and N14.97 billion respectively. 5.02 billion shares worth N68.97 billion in 41,543 deals were traded in the week under review as compared to 2.417 billion shares worth N18.813 billion in 20,874 deals traded in the preceding week. These additional shares were as a result of the just concluded Union Bank of Nigeria Plc right issue of five new ordinary shares for every seven ordinary shares held as at 21 August 2017 . With this listing, the company’s total issued and fully paid up shares now stands at 29,120,752,788 ordinary shares.
