DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Two men believed to be members of the Guerrilla Front 55 of the New People’s Army Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (NPA-SMRC) killed the wife of a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte, over the weekend, a police spokesperson said Monday. Jason Baria identified the victim as Gina Mantayona, wife of Mario Mantayona, an active Cafgu member in Talaingod. She died Saturday night at the Davao Regional Medical Center in Apokon, Tagum City, where she was transferred from the Kapalong District Hospital, according to Baria. Baria said that Gina’s husband was on duty when the NPAs attacked. According to Baria, the NPAs may have violated Republic Act 9851 or the “Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity.” /cbbADVERTISEMENTRead Next
