Canadians can only wonder what it cost the Liberals to bring an end to the lengthy, ill-considered legal assault on Vice-Admiral Mark Norman. But while Norman certainly deserves whatever he gets, Canadians will remain in the dark over many details of the case. The case fell apart in May when Norman’s defence team presented evidence that led the prosecution to conclude there was no likelihood of conviction. They also showed the information Norman supposedly leaked was widely available in Ottawa. It’s good news for the Liberals, an honourable ending for Vice-Admiral Norman, and yet another example of Canadians being disappointed by a government that promised so much and has delivered so little.
