Draft NHS plans reportedly suggest that even patients who opt out of their data being shared could see their information used across services covering up to five million people DOMINIC LIPINSKI/PAPrivacy campaigners have accused health bosses of “learning nothing” from previous data-sharing scandals after a leaked document revealed the extent of new plans. The government was forced to scrap proposals for the care data plan to link GP records after outcry over whether the public had been properly informed and given the chance to opt out. In July the information commissioner ruled that an NHS hospital had not used an appropriate legal basis to share 1.6 million patient records with Google’s Deepmind. A report published by the Department of Health in July promised that any new record-sharing system would come with “a single and simple mechanism for individuals to opt out of their data being shared beyond their direct care”.
