EDMONTON—Edmonton Strathcona will stay the lone orange blip in Alberta after a hotly contested race between two fresh faces in the federal election Monday night. Heather McPherson will take the reins from her NDP predecessor Linda Duncan, who retired after holding the seat for 11 years. Duncan was the only non-Conservative MP elected in Alberta until the Liberal party won four seats in the province in 2015. “When we go into the next election, I don’t want to celebrate one seat that is NDP in Alberta. Duane Bratt, a political scientist with Mount Royal University in Calgary, called it the “most progressive riding in Alberta.”McPherson seemed to agree with that assessment.
