NDP Leader Horwath puts chief of staff on leave over alleged response to complaints of groping

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has put her campaign director on a forced leave over accusations he didn’t take women’s complaints about a groping cabinet minister “seriously” while he was working for two Manitoba premiers. Both parties have set their sights on defeating Premier Kathleen Wynne, whose Liberals have been in power for 14 years. “I sat down across from him (Balagus) and told him to his face,” the public broadcaster quoted her as saying. “As the chief of staff at the time of these incidents, I deeply regret that their experience was not properly recognized or dealt with,” he added. Wynne parted company with a key re-election strategist, Patricia Sorbara, last month, after staff complained about her hard-charging style.
