NDF consultant slay probe: Nueva Vizcaya PNP execs sacked for mishandling evidence

MANILA, Philippines — Two Nueva Vizcaya police officials have been relieved from their posts for allegedly mishandling the evidence gathered at the scene where National Democratic Front (NDF) consultant Randy Felix Malayao was shot dead. Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde ordered the relief of Senior Superintendent Jeremias Aglugub, Nueva Vizcaya police director, and Chief Inspector Geovanni Cehes, Aritao town police chief. Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino, Cagayan Valley regional director, recommended the relief of the two officals, saying they violated operational procedures. Aglugub and Cehes reportedly turned over the cell phone, laptop, various identification cards and documents recovered from Malayao to his sister. Erwin Valeroso, Nueva Vicaya election supervisor, said the relief or transfer of police officials during the election ban could be done in the exigency of public service.
