NAB reopens appeal against Zardari’s acquittal in illegal assets case

The appeal challenging the acquittal of former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in a case pertaining to acquisition of assets through illegal means has been reopened by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi. The reference against the former president is concrete and further evidence has been found against him, NAB said. The anti-graft body has also appealed that the acquittal of the PPP co-chairman should be abolished and strict action should be taken against him. The high court has also sought the record from the accountability court. In 2017, a Rawalpindi accountability court had acquitted Zardari in several references involving the alleged possession of assets beyond known sources of his income.
