Mysuru has a honking problem, finds study


Despite the existence of no-horn signs, many vehicle users were not found to be exercising restraint. more-inA recent study on noise pollution found that noise levels were exceeding the threshold across the city, and particularly in silence zones, where vehicles were often found honking incessantly. The study, conducted by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) at 16 locations in the city, including silence zones such as hospitals and schools, concluded that vehicle honking was continuously observed in the silence zones. As in Bengaluru, a complete lack of awareness against the use of horns in silence zones was found among motorists in Mysuru, said Mahesh Kashyap, a KSCST consultant associated with the study. Despite the existence of no-horn signboards in silence zones, many vehicle users were not found to be exercising any sort of restraint.
