My life in restaurants — the highs, the lows and the mortifying


One in ten restaurants is facing closure this year. One posh place in Mayfair has introduced a £100-a-head minimum spend. From my mid-twenties to my mid-fifties, I’d eat out at least once a week. As dining habits change, and my own restaurant-attending career draws to a close, I thought I’d document the highs and lows. My first visit to France, my first experience of steak and chips, plus béarnaise sauce, plus fresh bread.
