PETALING JAYA: “Everyone is entitled to question, criticise or express their opinion but my job is clear – to go after corruption.”Those were the first words of Latheefa Koya as the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). “With the support of the rakyat and my officers in MACC, we can transform Malaysia into a corruption-averse and corruption-free society,” Latheefa said in a statement yesterday. She said she would be looking into long-term measures, including education, to create “a culture of intolerance to corruption”. Asked about the reasons for the sudden announcement, Dr Mahathir had said surprises happen. Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu believes Dr Mahathir would take note of the criticisms against his decision to appoint Latheefa.
