PETALING JAYA: “Everyone is entitled to question, criticise or express their opinion but my job is clear – to go after corruption.”Those were the first words of Latheefa Koya as the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). “With the support of the rakyat and my officers in MACC, we can transform Malaysia into a corruption-averse and corruption-free society,” Latheefa said in a statement yesterday. She said she would be looking into long-term measures, including education, to create “a culture of intolerance to corruption”. Asked about the reasons for the sudden announcement, Dr Maha­thir had said surprises happen. Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Nega­­ra president ​​​​​​Mohamad Sabu believes Dr Mahathir would take note of the criticisms against his decision to appoint Latheefa.
