My cold, wet night as a homeless personSPENDING one night sleeping in the wind, rain and cold may not seem like a big deal, but it’s enough to make you realise just how tough sleeping rough is. Last Friday, along almost 60 others, I went to spend a night on Spike Island. Armed with a dinosaur sleeping bag and a pair of Timberland boots, I arrived confident that the night would fly and it would even be a bit of craic. More than a few had a drink to help them sleep, but most endured a restless night, wishing for their warm bed back home. I hope I never had to sleep rough night after night, worrying about all kinds of things like rats and spiders or being robbed or assaulted.
