Outgoing Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has asked the Senate to rise above partisan politics and protect devolution. During his farewell address to the August House on Wednesday, Mutunga pointed out that Senate should not just debate but deliberate on national issues ‘which transcend mere party or regional interests’. Mutunga also enumerated the openness that currently exists between the judiciary, the public and other arms of government. "Every organ of State must therefore exercise its power in the public interest," Mutunga said.
