Mutual fund costs will fall, but only as we build scale: Sanjay Sapre, Franklin Templeton Investments India


Improving fiscal situation, inflation rate and exports growth point towards stability in the economy which augurs well for long-term equity investing. We need to look at these costs from a total cost of ownership (TCO) perspective visa-vis the value delivered to clients. First, equity funds continue to outperform their benchmarks and have provided significant value to investors.Second, expenses charged in the fixed income and money market categories are already significantly below the regulatory caps. Further, cost of operations are higher in India given the scale of the industry. Online platforms will increase access and ease of transacting and may attract more investors to try funds.
