Second, on “we accepted”: who is the “we” who have “accepted” Islam in India and its Muslims who practice it? Friendly as they may seem, the ways in which they relate to Muslim in/of India is through othering. [This raises the question, “are Hindus in/of India or indigenous to India? How else could this country be if the majority focused less on mythopoeic origin stories and more on the critical realities of the people in/of India?
