The students said they came from the unstable three southern provinces to study in Nakhon Si Thammarat and applied for loans from the Office of the Student Loan Committee from the beginning of the educational year. They said the educational year was ending soon but the office has not approved their loan applications and not explained why. Ha-ahree Ola, a first-year student of Chalerm Kanchana University in Nakhon Si Thammarat, said if the office does not approve the loans, the poorer students would have to drop out. She said her group has filed a complaint and sought help from the prime minister and education minister but heard nothing. The students dispersed after Col Yutthana Phetmuag, the Civilian Affairs Division director, promised to forward the complaint to the regional commander, Lt Gen Pornsak Poolsawat.
