Musicians aren’t the main cause of street noise

“It isn’t music to everyone’s ears” [Dec. 22, Metro], but busking allowed me to follow my dreams of public service. While I sympathize with local residents and businesses who must contend with high levels of noise, I find it disingenuous to single out street performers. The District is one of the noisiest cities in the United Sates, predominantly because of street traffic. Gallery Place is a hub for Metro and intercity buses, whose idling noise levels regularly exceed 65 decibels. Street performers may contribute to modest levels of noise, but they can hardly be blamed for the lack of quiet in the Gallery Place area.
