ADDIS ABABA – The President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni has urged the fighting armed groups to observe unconditional ceasefire to allow the Sudanese elect their leaders as owners of the nation. President Museveni, who is also chair of the African Union peace and security council for the month of May, convened a high level meeting on the situation in Sudan today. In his opening remarks, Museveni reiterated his call for the Sudan’s Army Forces (SAF) and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to “do away with the politics of identity and concentrate on the politics of interest.”“Sudan does not belong to the Sudan Army. The conflict in Sudan began on 15 April and was triggered by a power struggle between former allies – the leaders of SAF and the paramilitary RSF. Hundreds of people have been killed in the conflict that forced more than 1.3 million people to flee and threatened to destabilize the region.
