SERDANG: Durian Musang King saplings were among the favourite choices of visitors to the 2017 National Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK 2017) festival, with more than 1,000 saplings sold since Thursday. Mech Orkid Nursery director Khairol Abu Hasan said his stall at the plant and fruit sales division was sought after by visitors since the first day of the event and some 800 Durian Musang King saplings were sold within two days. Khairol said the sale of the durian Duri Hitam variety also received a welcoming response with more than of 200 of its saplings being sold. He said the Duri Hitam variety took around six years to produce fruit while the Musang King took nine years. He added, an important aspect in the cultivation of durian saplings is protection from insect pests and leaf cutters such as locusts and planthoppers that could affect the growth of the trees.
