On the way to his home at Nunchori village from Maischori village in Khagrachhari, Kalo Bondhu and his associates were attacked by a group armed with local weapons. He was killed on the spot and seven of his associates were injured. Witnesses said they were set upon by Nihar Kanti Tripura and a cohort numbering between 30 and 40. Khagrachhari Sadar UP Chairman Amre Marma said for a long time there had been disputes between Kalo Bondhu and Chironjit Tripura, father of Nihar kanti over a land. Kalo Bondhu and his associates, arrested in connection with the murder of Chironjit in May 2017, served two years in prison.
