Singh said the gang-rape complainant's father had died in Unnao jail because of beatings suffered a week earlier, on April 3, at the hands of suspect Atul Singh Sengar, brother of Bangermau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. After three days in the lock-up, the accused was shown as arrested on April 6, produced before a court and sent to jail custody. Rights panel rapThe National Human Rights Commission has sought an explanation of the custody death from the police chief within 24 hours. Four policemen, including the local station house officer in Unnao, were suspended on Monday after the custody death.
