Waste management has been poorly implemented in Andheri and Malad areas where hardly 20 per cent bulk waste generators have started processing waste. As per the data available with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) of BMC, the civic body has initiated action against 884 establishments in the city for failing to start waste management. In Mumbai, there are total 3374 bulk generators identified and 1572 establishments are processing waste at their premises. Around two years ago, the BMC had made compulsory for bulk waste generators to dispose of garbage in their premises only. The civic body asked them to set up vermi-composting facility within one more month or that have to face action under the MRTP Act.
