A tornado struck Montgomery County on Wednesday evening, destroying a structure in Gaithersburg and trapping people, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman. Tornado warnings were in effect for Carroll, Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties as well. The Olde Towne neighborhood in Gaithersburg sustained the heaviest damage from the tornado that swept through Montgomery County on Wednesday evening. The storm significantly damaged three homes, including one on Dogwood Drive that collapsed and trapped five people in the debris, said Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Earl Stoddard. Those five people were swiftly rescued, Stoddard said, and one was taken to the hospital as a trauma transfer with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
