The result of the vote in favour of equality was announced by Henry Fairweather, the club captain, just ten months after the membership had rejected the same proposal in another ballot. Last May, 64 per cent of the membership had voted in favour of gender equality, just short of the two-thirds majority required to change the club’s constitution.
