Mountain rescuer seriously injured falling 500ft trying to reach Covid rule breaker

The Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team had been called out to help a man camping in the beautyspot above the Kirkstone Pass suffering chest pains in the early hours of Saturday morning. "Rescue team members are volunteers who train extensively to rescue others in the most atrocious weathers and in inhospitable places. Mr Blakey said the rescue team should not have needed to be out that night. "However the simple truth is that the more people who are out walking on the Lakeland Fells, the higher the chances that our mountain rescue team will be called out. "It is very clearly a difficult time for the family of the injured team member, and for members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, and we are asking that their privacy be respected."
