Motorists are being put on alert today as a new report warns that big numbers of secondhand cars are being sold with repayments still owed. More than a third (35pc) of three-year-old cars offered for sale have ‘finance outstanding’. The findings – and the warning - are based on the most recent sample of around 5,906 vehicles offered for sale and checked via the Cartell.ie website. The experts also found that 34pc of one-year-old vehicles offered for sale had repayments due. “This means there is now a one-in-three chance of a one-year-old vehicle being offered for sale with finance outstanding,” the report says.
