BEIJING: A motorist in China has been fined for blocking the path of an ambulance on an emergency call by driving slowly and refusing to get out of the way, a newspaper reported. The patient inside the ambulance who had been in a road accident later died, but the authorities said it was unclear if the delay played a critical role. Video recorded by the ambulance showed the black sedan driving slowly in the fast lane. The ambulance finally overtook after about a minute and the two drivers lowered windows and had an unfriendly verbal exchange. The maximum punishment for blocking an ambulance or a firefighting truck in China is 10 days in prison or a fine of 500 yuan.
