A motorcyclist is in serious condition after his vehicle collided with a backhoe at an intersection in Vanier Friday evening. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition, but his condition has since been upgraded to serious, according to police. Ottawa police said the collision happened at 4:40 p.m. at McCarthur Avenue and Marguerite Avenue. Portions of McCarthur and Marguerite were closed but have since reopened.
