Allan Kirk of New Zealand Motorcycle Safety Consultants says there needs to be better training for motorcyclists [file photo]. A motorcycle safety campaigner says the high number of motorbike crashes in New Zealand is going to continue if specially targeted survival training isn’t given to riders. In 2020 there were 57 people killed on motorbikes, up two from the previous year, New Zealand Motorcycle Safety Consultants Allan Kirk said. “While the authorities dithered, lots of bikes have been sold that could be future deathtraps for riders in the years to come.”There were also signs 2021 could have a higher rate of motorcycle crashes, Kirk said. This was due to the big increase in the sales of motorcycles as well as weather predictions.
