BUKIT MERTAJAM: Embattled PKR's Penanti lawmaker Dr Norlela Ariffin will submit a motion when the state legislative assembly convenes in November for stern action to be taken against all illegal factories. At present, action was taken under the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172), which provides for only a fine on the offenders. "It is not wise to bring the illegal factories matter to court as the operators will only be fined a mere RM1,000 or less, but the factories' operation will still go on. On Aug 10, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and other government agencies raided the illegal factory after repeated complaints fell on deaf ears. "This means that the DoE has the right to do something against illegal factories.
