Mother on trial in disabled daughter's death kept 'immaculate' care of her but believed in demons, court hears

Two drastically different pictures of Patricia Couture — a mother on trial for the death of her severely disabled daughter — emerged in a Calgary courtroom Thursday. But Patricia's ex-husband, Bryan Couture, described a woman who believed doctors and neighbours were demons. Their daughter, Melissa Couture, 38, had severe developmental disabilities, functioning at the cognitive level of a three- or four-year-old. Former friends testified Thursday that Patricia Couture, right, took 'immaculate' care of her daughter, Melissa, left. Bryan Couture was the last witness for Chief Crown Sue Kendall and prosecutor Kyra Kondra.
