Mother and Baby Homes Commission finishes up despite Dáil vote

The Mother and Baby Homes Commission has been dissolved, the Children’s Minister has confirmed. Despite the Government supporting a motion that passed through the Dáil to extend the commission, no further action was taken and the commission was disbanded. The commission declined a request to appear before the Oireachtas Children’s Committee to answer questions about the Mother and Baby Homes inquiry report, which was published in January. “The commission dissolved on February 28 as it was set out in the legislation,” the Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman said. Under GDPR data protection laws, survivors can request information about themselves from those records at Mr O’Gorman's department.
