Most tahfiz schools in Perlis comply with safety regulations

PADANG BESAR: The majority of the tahfiz schools (private Islamic religious schools) registered with the state government in Perlis are complying with the safety requirements fixed by the authorities. State Fire and Rescue department (Safety and Fire) assistant director Na Khoom a/l Kiang said six out of 12 tahfiz schools passed the safety inspection this year while the remaining would be inspected as scheduled until end of the year. Apart from annual inspections, he said the department also engaged the respective schools' students in fire safety and rescue awareness sessions through the 'Op Pondok Outreach' programme. "In Perlis, most tahfiz schools were developed after the national school model, which met the minimum requirement of having at least two exits to avoid congestion in the event of an emergency. Na Khoom said the department would continue working with the respective school administrations on areas to be improved in term of safety features.
