Most still undecided over charter: 7th Nida Poll


It was the 7th of eleven suvey on the charter referendum to be carried out by Nida. With less than a month to go before the Aug 7 charter referendum, a majority of people are still undecided whether to vote for or against the draft charter, according an opinion survey by National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll. The poll was conducted on July 5-6 on 1,500 people aged 18 and over of various levels of education and occupation throughout the country. To the question whether they would vote for or against the draft charter, a majority, or 64.94%, of the respondents were still undecided (up from 62.80% in the 6th survey); 26.33% said they would vote for it; 6.20% said they would vote against it; and, 2.53% said they would go to vote, but it would not be for or against it. Asked whether or not they would vote to endorse a proposal for appointed senators to vote along with members of the House of Representatives to elect the prime minister, 56.73% were still undecided (up from 50.93% in the 6th survey); 24.87% said they would vote for it; 17.60% would vote to reject it; and, 0.80% said their votes would not be for or against it.
