Photo: Ex Prime Minister and current head of the PJD party, Abdelilah Benkirane:Morocco’s royal court on Monday criticised comments by a leading Islamist opposition party that accused the authorities of bias towards Israel. “Morocco’s position towards the Palestinian question is irreversible,” the royal court said Monday, noting that “the kingdom’s external policy is the prerogative of His Majesty the King (Mohammed VI) under the constitution”. As such, it “cannot be subjected to political bidding and narrow electoral campaigns”, the statement added. “The instrumentalisation of the kingdom’s foreign policy in an internal partisan agenda is a dangerous and unacceptable precedent,” it said. Since Morocco and Israel normalised ties, cooperation has advanced at a steady pace, though the kingdom continues to reaffirm its stance in support of the Palestinians and their bid for statehood.
