Rabat – Moroccan athlete Soufiane El Bakkali secured a place at the final of the 3000-meter steeple at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar from September 27 to October 6. The Moroccan athlete came second with a time of 8 munites and 17 seconds, just behind Ethiopian Lamecha Girma. On August 25, El Bakkali astonished Moroccan fans after he won Paris Diamond League’s 3000m steeplechase despite injuries he sustained during the race. In 2016, El Bakkali represented Morocco at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, coming 4th in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, his specialty.
