GEORGE TOWN: Three shop houses located within the George Town World Heritage Site in Jalan Penang here burned down this morning in a fire. The fire reportedly broke out at a souvenir shop at about 9.30am before spreading to adjacent shop houses. The victim, in her 30s, was rushed to the Penang Hospital after she fainted from smoke inhalation. The Fire and Rescue team managed to control the fire from spreading to other shops at 10.30am, but they are still in the midst of putting out the fire. The morning blaze forced the police to shut off the road nearby, resulting in a major gridlock along Jalan Penang today.
