NZ Surf series open woman winner Elin Tewahru, Mount Maunganui on her way to win her first final at Fitzroy Beach. Muriwai's Paul Moretti and Mount Maunganui's Elin Tawharu claimed maiden New Zealand Surf Series victories in the season-ending Backdoor Pro event at Fitzroy Beach, New Plymouth on Sunday. Runner-up Billy Stairmand (Raglan) with a 13.3 point heat total did enough to leap to the top of the NZ Surf Series standings for the year, and third straight title. Tawharu pushed Aimee Brown (Great Barrier) into second, and also second overall on the New Zealand Surf Series rankings behind Raiha Ensor (Mount).
