Relatively unnoticed, buried under the weight of Premier League headlines and big European finals, this little team from the north-west coast of England are in absolute fantasy land. If they are the stars of a fairytale ending come Monday evening, then it will rank among the most unlikely of footballing miracles of modern times. If, however, the closing chapter brings with it a Grimm ending, then there is no big, bad wolf to report, as Newport County have not been promoted in the Football League since 1980! So, by all means, watch the Champions League final and get sucked in by ‘the richest game in football’ between Brentford and Swansea, but missing Monday would be a giant mistake. Morecambe are, quite simply, everything a European Super League isn’t.
