More to be tested at Choi Wan Estate as sewage coronavirus test returns positive

Residents, as well as visitors of Fung Chak House, Choi Wan Estate in Ngau Chi Wan will be required to undergo mandatory Covid testing, after health officials revealed that sewage samples collected at the building were tested positive for the virus. The news came as the city expected more than 60 Covid cases today. University of Hong Kong faculty of medicine dean, Gabriel Leung Cheuk-wai said testing of waste from the city’s housing estates has taken place regularly since the third wave of infections. “The samples we collected from Fung Chak House on December 23, 24, 26 and 27 were found to have contained the coronavirus,” said Leung. The mandatory testing would hope to screen out the infected, preventing another community outbreak.”Sewage testing conducted earlier at Ming Lai House in Choi Wan Estate, Richland Gardens in Kowloon Bay, Jat Min Chuen in Sha Tin and Kwai Shing West Estate all came back to be negative for the coronavirus.
