Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has said more than 40 per cent of accidents are caused by careless pedestrians. He said such accidents can be avoided if pedestrians observe traffic rules adding that some boda boda riders are not wearing safety helmets and other protective gear. Boinnet told operators in the public transport sector to shape up or ship out of business. Boinnet said passengers, drivers and Sacco managers have a responsibility in curbing road carnage. Boinnet said he was personally mourning two close relatives including his own assistant chief who died in the road accident.
