DOMINICO ZAPATA/STUFF/Waikato Times Cycling New Zealand high performance director Martin Barras played a key role in selections for major campaigns. The death of the 24-year-old Rio Olympian prompted serious questions over Cycling NZ’s high performance culture, and the organisation’s commitment to athlete welfare. Barras, who joined Cycling NZ in 2018 following a lengthy stint as a senior track coach with Cycling Australia, oversaw the organisation’s high performance operations. The departures of Barras and Wolff join a steady stream of high performance staff to exit the organisation in recent weeks. Cycling NZ is already advertising for the role of high performance systems coordinator after the resignation of Hughie Castle.
