Koeberg nuclear power plant’s problematic Unit 2 tripped on Saturday morning, less than a month after it was plagued with mechanical problems and a delayed return to service. “Eskom can confirm that the device jumped from full power during a routine test of the pushrod,” spokesman Sikonathi Mantshantsha told Fin24. When the problem hit in mid-August, Eskom said at the time it could take up to five days to repair the unit and the unit would need another three days to get going. At a briefing in July, Eskom announced that Koeberg’s chief nuclear officer Riedewaan Bakardien would resign to join a Canadian nuclear utility. However, the unit finally returned to service on August 7, before being affected by the steering rod problem
