The battle to douse a fire that has destroyed 350 hectares of forestry near Napier is nearly over. A heavy downpour on Wednesday night has given firefighters a helping hand as 30 personnel continue to operate on the ground on Thursday. Mop-up operations will continue along with assistance from Pan Pac forestry teams. The cordon at the junction of Tangoio Settlement Rd and Waipatiki Rd is still in place but is expected to be lifted at 6pm on Thursday. The Tangoio area is in a restricted fire season and has a "moderate" fire risk according to the FENZ website.
