Back in February I visited ustwo games in London, makers of the remarkable Monument Valley, a dazzlingly beautiful puzzle game where you must guide Princess Ida through a series of impossible buildings and landscapes. Even more tantalisingly, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was coming along and I could ask him his thoughts on the new game. At one point, one of the games designers showing Monument Valley 2 to Tim Cook says, “You won’t say anything publicly about this, will you?”. Before Tim Cook arrived, I asked Dan Gray, the company’s Head of Studio, about the development of the first Monument Valley game, which has a distinctive look similar to the impossible geometrics of Dutch graphics artist M. C. Escher. So, in Monument Valley 2, it touches upon an emotional relationship that just isn't common in video games whatsoever.
