Montreal Alouettes ransack Toronto Argonauts, avoid fifth straight loss in new head coach’s first game

MONTREAL — Rakeem Cato threw four touchdown passes to help make Jacques Chapdelaine a winner in his debut as a CFL head coach as the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Toronto Argonauts 38-11 on a wet Sunday afternoon. Lirim Hajrullahu booted three field goals for Toronto (5-9), which has lost three straight and has only one win in its last eight. RelatedToronto picked up a 41-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter, but Montreal scored again after Jovon Johnson picked off a Willy pass. Hajrullahu added a 36-yard kick at 11:59, but Cato answered with a seven-play drive capped by a 14-yard TD pass to Cunningham on the final play of the third quarter. Alan-Michael Cash recovered a Willy fumble at the Toronto 13 to set up Giguere’s one-yard scoring run late in the game.
