A new species of fish was discovered in New Zealand when one of them washed up on a NZ beach. The fish discovered is known as Sunfish and is the heaviest among all the osteichthyes, or the "bony" fish. Marianne Nyegaard from the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences and a group of international researchers discovered the species after studying the Indo-Pacific region for more than four years. "That is why we named it Mola tecta (the Hoodwinker Sunfish), derived from the Latin tectus, meaning disguised or hidden."
