Monsoon fury lashes Gujarat, Gir Somnath swamped with 14 inches of rain


Parts of Gir Somnath, Morbi-Tankara and Wankaner- in Saurashtra and Banaskantha in north Gujarat have been severely affected in the rain. Fourteen inches of rain fell in Gir Somnath, 11 inches in Morbi-Tankara while Wankaner received 7 inches of rainfall since Saturday morning, the state government’s information department said on Sunday. As many as 221 of total 250 talukas in the state recorded minimum 5 inches rainfall. In Ahmedabad city, which saw around 2 inches of rain, a young two-wheeler rider named Prem Prakash Chauhan died after he reportedly fell in a water logged pit. Chief minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday said that state disaster management department has been put on alert to tackle the situation.
